burns away

watching as the day burns
away until night time and bright
eyes look into his own
possibly not even realizing
the strength until recently
the bond tight as the rope
we all walk daily as a part of the
life long balancing act
sometimes all the thoughts
studder step
their way through the pen
and onto the written page

watching as the day
burns away waiting until
comfort wraps around him
like a blanket in the summer
because the fan cools everything
down under comfort's arms
holding hands as he falls asleep...
